Aim of Course
Both the theoretical and the practical aspects of the course are equally important. The aim is to give all persons intending to go to sea a basic knowledge of the immediate action to be taken upon encountering an accident or medical emergency. Practical exercises are backed up by theoretical input, and it is important that candidates participate actively if they are to generate the confidence that the course is designed to impart.
Course Length: 1 day (09:00 – 18:00 hrs)
Certification: Department of Transport Ireland STCW Certificate

Course Content
• Introduction to First Aid
• Aims and priorities
• Resuscitation techniques
• Care of the unconscious
• Hypothermia and Cold Shock
• Burns and scalds including electric shock
• Bleeding and basic shock management
• Fractures
• Rescue and transportation of a casualty
Qualifications on Completion
Individual assessment takes place during the course and on completion you will receive the Elementary First Aid STCW Certificate.
